?Reversible Methods of Birth Control

Intrauterine Devices (IUD)IUD is a T-shaped device that goes inside your uterus. This birth control is reversible with nonhormonal and hormone options.

♀️ Copper T IUD

This IUD is nonhormonal and can stay in your uterus for up to 10 years. Effective rate is approximately 99.2%

♀️ Levonorgestrel IUD

This IUD contains progestin which is a hormone. There are various brands and can stay in your uterus for up to 3 to 6 years. These include: Skyla, Kyleena, Mirena and Liletta. Effective rate is approximately 99%.

?Hormonal Methods.

♀️ Implant

The implant is a single, thin rod that is inserted under the upper arm. The rod contains a progestin that is released over 3 years. Effective rate is approximately 99.9%

♀️ Injection 

Shots of the hormone progestin can be given in the buttocks or arm every three months from your doctor. Effective rate is approximately 94%

♀️ Combined oral contraceptive

Also known as “the pill,” these contain the hormones estrogen and progestin. The pill is taken at the same time each day. If you have certain conditions like blood clots or are a smoker older than 35 yo then you should not be using the pill. Effective rate is approximately 93%

♀️ Patch

This skin patch is worn on your skin like buttocks or stomach but not the breasts. It releases hormones progestin and estrogen into the bloodstream. You put on a new patch once a week for three weeks. During the fourth week, you do not wear a patch, so you can have a menstrual period. Effective rate is approximately 93%

♀️ Hormonal vaginal ring 

This ring releases progestin and estrogen. You place it inside your vagina for 3 weeks then the last week you remove it and have your period. Effective rate is approximately 93%.

?Barrier methods.

♀️ Condoms, female condoms, spermicides, and diaphragm are different options as barriers. Failure rates are from 13 to 21%.

?Permanent Methods of Birth Control.

♀️ Female sterilization and male vasectomy. Effective rate approximately 99%
